What is Kind Nest Birth Services?
Kind Nest Birth Services is a midwifery practice offering home births and pre+post natal care attended by Certified Professional Midwife Victoria Solis and team. As a midwife, Victoria, is trained and experienced in providing you with education about your care, options in testing, and birth plan.
Who is a good candidate for Kind Nest Birth Services?
Healthy women in the all encompassing Greater Houston area from Galveston to Friendswood to Clear Lake and more, who are free of major medical or obstetric complications and who are seeking an active role in their pregnancy and positive birth experience with minimal intervention. If you’ve had a cesarean previously, please contact us to determine if we are compatible with your birthing plans.
What does a prenatal visit look like?
Prenatal visits are up to 1 hour in your home or off-site office and follow the routine guidelines for maternity care. We’re happy to see you as early in your pregnancy as you would like. We check your vitals plus urine, measure and palpate physical changes every month until 32 weeks, then we visit every two weeks until 36 weeks, and then weekly until baby is born.
Aside from the physical journey, we help you to prepare confidently for the life changes a new baby brings to your emotional life and relationships.
Informed consent is an important of your prenatal care and you may opt for minimal lab work and/or additional testing. There are some standard of care tests that must be done to protect your health and that of your baby so we will help you decide what’s right for you. If you will have concurrent care with any other medical professional, inform us so we may request medical records for any sonogram or labs performed.
We will discuss, as in depth as you are comfortable, your diet, supplementation, and physical activity. We are open to discussing your ideas of alternative supplements such as herbal or homeopathic.
Where can I learn more about natural childbirth?
Books are available for loan and you are encouraged to use whatever method works best for you to educate yourself. We can recommend online resources to find classes, websites, books and videos, or childbirth educators if you would like to attend an in person class.
What happens during birth?
When the time comes for your baby’s birth, we will help you to labor and birth in positions which enhance the process and your comfort. Some women choose to be surrounded by family members during the birth while others prefer a more private intimate setting, this is completely up to you.
More than half of our clients opt for water birth which is a particularly gentle alternative. We are present throughout our clients’ active labors. We will bring an inflatable tub if you wish to use it versus your bathtub.
If you tear a little during birth, we can suture you. If you bleed more than is expected, we have medications available to treat that. If your baby needs a little help with breathing in this new world, we have resuscitation equipment available at every birth.
What happens after birth?
Our team will stay with you for up to 3 hours after your home birth. There is no rush to cut the umbilical cord and we encourage skin to skin with mom. Gradually, baby begins to breastfeed and integrates into their family.
Our midwife will visit with you and your newborn two to three days after birth as a routine check up. We will discuss how breastfeeding is going and ask how you’re adjusting to being a new mother. Our midwife will also perform the newborn screen that includes a blood sample.
Six to eight weeks after birth will be our final visit. After this, we recommend you take your baby to a pediatrician or family practitioner.
What is the cost of birth delivery?
The fees are about one third of typical physician and hospital charges.
Please see our plans. We offer a free one time consultation and we can personalize any of our plans to fit your needs.
We include all prenatal care, birth, and postpartum care, birth tub rental, vitamin K for baby, and having access to our midwife 24/7 starting at day one of signing our agreement until week 6 of postpartum.
We do not include lab fees, genetic screening, ultrasounds, RhoGam (for Rh negative parents), erythromycin eye ointment or the Texas Newborn Screen for baby.
What insurance plans do you accept?
We do not bill any health insurers at the moment. You may use your health insurance plan for labs, sonograms, and/ or prescription medications. Check with your insurance plan for coverage details.
What is the difference between a midwife and a doula?
We hear this question often and while a midwife and a doula make a fantastic team, we have a difference in scope of duties to our clients. A midwife is a licensed medical professional that will deliver your baby and handle the medical aspects of childbirth. Whilst, a doula provides emotional and practical support.
